Why I needed to get back into exercise and keep fit
About 2 years ago, over the festive season, I stopped my regular exercise and really overindulged. My justification – it was time to rest, relax and enjoy myself. The result – an obvious gain in weight especially around my midsection and a dramatic drop in my fitness level – that was not good. Things had to change. I started controlling my eating a bit more and exercising regularly. To make exercising more fun I started mixing things up a bit. Before, I was mostly exercising with free weights and riding the spin cycle, with the odd session on the treadmill. Now, I’ve incorporated the elliptical runner, rowing machine and stepper for cardio. I’ve also been using kettlebells and the Kinesis multi-function machine at my local Virgin Active health club. I’ve taken advantage of the good weather to take more walks outdoors and swimming when the weather has been too hot. The combination of healthy eating and regular exercise has resulted in a shrinking midsection. And, if you’re wondering, I didn’t overindulge over the past festive season but I did enjoy myself.
